Humboldt Colloquium - November 2-14, 2012

Session for Early Career Researchers
Humboldt Colloquium
“Excellence in Research”
2-4 November 2012, Toronto
Call for Papers

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation promotes academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars from Germany and countries around the world. To this end, it grants more than 700 research fellowships and research awards annually to individual researchers who become life-long members of the international network of more than 25,000 alumni, the socalled “Humboldtians” (
http://www.humboldt-foundation.de).

As a gathering of the Humboldt community in Canada, the Humboldt Colloquium will celebrate the German-Canadian partnership in research and will explore current trends in the making and funding of excellent research in all fields of research in both Germany and Canada. We are expecting about 250 participants, roughly 200 Humboldt alumni and 50 early career researchers from leading universities and research institutions across Canada.

As a part of the colloquium, a special session for early career researchers will take place on the afternoon of 3 November at the Hyatt Park Regency Hotel.

The session will give prominent space to early career researchers from all fields, allowing them to present their current work to more senior and established Canadian researchers with strong international experience and connections and to seek personal advice on sponsorship opportunities for international collaboration from the representatives of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and its partner organizations, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Max Planck Society (MPG).

Advanced PhD students and scientists and scholars who received their PhD degree fewer than 6 years ago are invited to submit an application to participate in the three-day colloquium and present a short paper during the workshops on 3 November and/or a poster during the poster session.

Applications are accepted  until 7 September under the following link:
.

The preliminary program and general information and advice for the presentation are also available at this site. The conference language is English.

All applications will be reviewed by a committee of Humboldt alumni as well as staff of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The selection of the participants will be based on the abstracts, biography and list of publications submitted. All applicants will be notified by the first week of October.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation will cover the costs for the participation of early career researchers in the three-day program (coffee breaks, meals, conference materials). Those attending from outside Toronto will receive a lump-sum conference allowance of 150 CAD to help cover travel and accommodation costs.
